Rachel's Challenge is an amazing program our school is participating in. On April 20th, 1999, one of the biggest school shootings occurred. Two boys walked into Columbine High School and killed 15 people while injuring 24. The first person to be shot, and killed, was Rachel Scott. Her amazing story is shared through the Rachel's Challenge, and our school is lucky enough to be apart of that. Rachel Scott was a girl who tried to be as respectful as possible. She was the type of girl who would see a student sitting by themselves at lunch so she would go sit next to them. She encouraged the people around her, friends and family, to be as respectful as she was. Rachel's Challenge is an incredible story that will make you cry, but realize more about life. It opened up many of our students' eyes and made us realize how being kind is so important. The Friends of Rachel's (F.O.R.) Training is a program as well that is about Rachel Scott. Our amazing social worker, Ms. Wiener, is the leader for the F.O.R. group. Students joined to create different ways to spread awareness of bullying in our school to make sure everyone's respectful. We are including it on social media, posters, and more. Its an amazing program that everyone is so proud to be apart of. The day of the Rachel's Challenge presentation we had an evening event where all parents were welcome to watch Rachel's Story. It was very emotional, but a great way to spread awareness to not only the students, but also our parents. This way our parents could have an idea about what we have been doing in school to spread kindness. Our school is proud to say we are apart of Rachel's Story. We are learning more and more about her story and respecting others.
